International creative agency, Fred & Farid, approached us to collaborate on the development of a multi-platform PSA for Sea Shepherd’s on-going campaign against the proliferation of plastic littering the world’s oceans, which contribute to the deaths of more than 1 million marine animals each year.

We worked with Fred & Farid to develop a campaign that takes the viewer on an emotional journey from the beautiful and elegant, before transitioning to the horrifying struggle of each animal, and finally resolving into a simple, but powerful call to action.

International creative agency, Fred & Farid, approached us to collaborate on the development of a multi-platform PSA for Sea Shepherd, an international conservation organization dedicated to protecting marine wildlife. The purpose of the campaign was to draw attention to Sea Shepherd’s on-going campaign against the proliferation of plastic littering the world’s oceans, which contribute to the deaths of more than 1 million marine animals each year. We worked with Fred & Farid to develop both print and motion components for the campaign, which consisted of highly-detailed simulations of marine animals trapped in a liquid plastic.

Beginning with the striking print images, we crafted a narrative for the motion spot that transitioned from the beautiful to the terrifying. We wanted to take the viewer on an emotional journey beginning with images that were beautiful and elegant, before transitioning to the horrifying struggle of each animal, and finally resolving into a realistic ocean to deliver a simple, but powerful call to action.

All the creatures were modeled and animated in Maya before being migrated to Houdini for the painstaking work of building the “plastic ocean” simulations. Final compositing was done in Nuke. The finishing touch was the haunting score and sound design composed and arranged by Tuesday Collective.
